Pay it Forward

When I was younger, my husband and I wanted to be philanthropists. Life threw us catawampus and we haven't gotten there... yet. However, both of us try to pay it forward any way we are able. Each day we learn that sometimes a Random Act of Kindness can be just as meaningful as writing a check. Should you be riding in the same boat we are, this is the life vest. Even the tiniest of kindnesses sends a ripple out into the universe. I often think of that old Faberge organic shampoo commercial “They’ll tell two friends… and they’ll tell two friends… and so on, and so on…”

As I hear of causes which need help or ones which I feel are special, I will list them here. Personally I am more of a fan of the smaller charities which touch communities with their loving hands.

My family has personal experience with this one as my niece is a Leukemia survivor. The things they do to impact families of pediatric oncology patients are tremendous. If you are a Maryland local, birdhouses painted by the children are on display at malls to tell the stories of the faces of childhood cancer. (As of August 2014, they are in White Marsh.) This year they sent families to a condo in Myrtle Beach. What a wonderful thing to give these families a safe haven where they can go and enjoy each other.
The following is a campaign one of my oldest and dearest high school friends is helping with. It is raising money for www.baltimorestation.org. They help homeless veterans get back on their feet. What a great way to show our forgotten heroes that we care.
